we recently had a fun competition on MISI when Mo from MornieG Jewellery had us guessing when she would reach 3,000 posts on the forum. She kept us guessing for a few days with the promise of a pair of earrings for the winner.

I WON

I chose a pair of earrings from the MornieG Jewellery shop on MISI - difficult choice as she uses such pretty handmade artisan lampwork beads by Rob Johnson but eventually decided on some blue ones.

I got them yesterday (after a detour back to the sorting office because I wasn't in when they tried to deliver & needed a signature - why does the collection office at Royal Mail have such daft opening hour - I've digressed!)

I didn't just get the blue earrings but also gorgeous pair of cream coloured ones - they look like they have mother of pearl in the glass

well I failed miserably with the A-Team daily listing challenge on Folksy - fell off the wagon very early in the month. I'd done so well in July with the July Jesters - listing most days for Just K Jewellery and Karen's Beads.
This month I'm only joining the September Stars for Karen's Beads - I'll try to list daily but doubt if I'll be able to make enough pieces, especially as I include at least 4 items in each listing (to try & keep the costs down)

some of you will know that I also make my resin beads and pendants for others to use in their own jewellery making projects.

I'd happily sit in my workroom and experiment with resin all day, every day. The result is that I make more resin pieces than I can possibly use myself.

I don't make much beaded jewellery these days although I'm still obsessed with beads - I try not to look anymore so I'm not tempted.

Some of the customers who buy my resin pendants from Karen's Beads make the most fabulous jewellery with them. I'm luck enough to be "friends" with some of them on Facebook so I get to see the photographs of their jewellery creations.

I'll be blogging about one particular jewellery designer soon - I just need to go through her photographs and decide which ones to feature.

The pendants I've featured today have all just been listed in Karen's Beads on Folksy
(I so nearly kept some of them for my own jewellery - had to tell myself NO)

1950 coin dish - walnut wood

I was asked recently by Jean of Talking Beads if dad could make her a special wooden dish for her brother's 60th birthday. She wanted a small coin dish with a 1950 coin set into the bottom. Dad hasn't been well recently so I wasn't sure if he wanted to take on a commission but he said yes and we discussed dimensions.

Dad found a piece of walnut in his workshop & we found a 1950 halfpenny in a box of old coins that Nick remembered he had.

My dad is an absolute perfectionist and the little coin dish he made is just beautiful.

I know Jean likes it because she's posted that she does on the Misi forum!

Childrens Jewellery

So far I've resisted making childrens jewellery - apart from some charm bracelets for a friends daughter & her pals.
I found some cartoon animal and butterfly stickers recently and made them into hearts and shapes - they were just calling out to be childrens pendants!

recently one of the other sellers on Folksy - Serena from The Copper Swallow - posted on the Folksy forum asking for people to donate an item, or a percentage from the sale of an item, to an animal charity of our choice. She runs a website called One Small Mouse which campaigns for animal welfare.
I was more than happy to get involved as I really admire people who work tirelessly for charities that they feel passionate about.
I decided I wanted to make a pendant using a vintage image of cats and I had great fun trawling the internet looking a suitable image. I found loads a fabulous vintage photographs and postcards - some of which I've already used and lots that I'm saving for later.

In the end I decided to use an image of three little kittens popping their heads out of an envelope

Serena has written about the pendant on One Small Mouse & we've both tweeted, facebooked and blogged hoping to find someone to click the buy button! As soon as it sells I'll be popping a cheque for £12.50 in the post to my local Cats Protection League.

I asked Folksy Admin if I could sell some of my dad's handmade woodwork in my shop - and they said yes! I also want to try making things other than jewellery so have renamed my shop Just K Jewellery & Gifts.

oh dear, and it was going so well!

All been a bit manic the past few days. I've been considering moving Karen's Beads for a while but wasn't sure where to go. In the end it seemed that Folksy was the obvious choice so I opened a new shop a couple of days ago. Why Karen's Beads - I guess that's the subject for a blog in itself!

Why, oh why do I do it!!!

Why do I think "I'll just quickly do that"

the result is spoiling what I was working on

I didn't put enough coats of sealer on the images in these pendants and the resin has crept under the edges of the picture & discoloured them in places. I know it gives an "aged" appearance which is in keeping with something that's vintage style BUT I know they aren't perfect.

If anyone is interested in buying all three as a job lot for £2 I'll throw in free postage email me but they are being sold as seconds

Folksy - July Jesters - 2nd July

Today's listing from me is this pair of silver feather tassle earrings. I was having a rummage through a box of beads and findings that I found under my workdesk - well, actually amongst lots of boxes of "stuff" under my desk.

In the box was a bag of lightweight silver feathers that I don't remember buying or what I bought them for! Had a fun afternoon playing around with them - without any planning they turned into this pair of earrings. There were still some feather left so I carried on playing and a necklace appeared - but you'll have to wait to see that as it's my July Jesters listing for tomorrow

I just love these bling rings - the beads dangle from the ring shank, they aren't rigid. So simple & pretty.

there's so much scope to use a variety of different beads to create lots of really different rings.

the purple & blue ones have lots of glitter in tinted resin, gold is lots of tiny gold beads in clear resin and the sprinkles are candy cake sprinkles (hundreds and thousands) in clear resin

Chilli Pepper Jewellery

I bought some small glass chilli pepper charms recently thinking I'd make a charm bracelet with them. I could have kicked myself when they arrived - why didn't I read the description properly & take note of the dimensions! They were tiny & lots of them didn't have a proper hole in the loop in the top. I've separated out all the charms that I can use with a jump ring - but 75% I can't get the thinnest wire through.

It's just as well that I make resin jewellery and could embed them into different colour resin to make a chilli pepper range of jewellery (it would have been the bin otherwise)

these pieces are all in my GroovyCart shop

I've still got LOADS of them left so suspect they'll be appearing in my resin jewellery on & off for a while. I might make some up into cabochons and pendants to sell in Just K Beads on GroovyCart or Karen's Beads on Misi - so let me know if you might be interested...
