I started making jewellery for myself a few years ago and soon became totally addicted. I borrowed books from the library and bought lots too. I'm always interested in how something is made rather than replicating the piece of jewellery I'm looking at. I have been known to follow someone around a shop just to get a better look at the jewellery she's wearing!
I discovered resin after going on a silver clay workshop. Whilst I loved making the pure silver jewellery it was adding colour that interested me. I tried enamelling and might have pursued that direction if I hadn't discovered you could use coloured resin instead of enamel to achieve the effect I was looking for.
Then I bought a book about resin jewellery and as soon as it arrived I knew this was what I wanted to do. I struggled in the early days as there were virtually no supplies or moulds available in the UK. Everything was trial and error - and there were lots of errors! Luckily today both the resin and moulds are beginning to be more easily sourced in the UK.
Since the early days I have developed my techinques and skills. I'm constantly experimenting - "what will this look like in resin" - or making my own moulds from items I find.
